Matthew 10:16 (NIV84)
16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
Louie Giglio has made one of the wisest decisions I have seen in the evangelical community.
Mr. Giglio has stood firm in his faith and convictions without giving in to the pressure of prestige.
A man only gets one call in this life to lead prayer at the Presidential inauguration event. He has denied himself the experience based upon what he recognizes as the greater good of the cause and call of Jesus Christ.
Mr. Giglio and I have something in common. We have made mistakes in the past by passionately beating pulpits about what we knew was truth but not heeding Jesus command to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. We relied on passion and failed to express love through our sharing of life with those who are no less or more sinners than either of us are.
I don’t frequently speak out on my convictions of abortion and homosexuality. Anyone that knows me knows where I stand on those issues and the way I have approached them has been saved for people that know I love them and accept them. That does not mean I agree with them or accept their view or rationalization of their choices. That love has been returned from most of them. They love me even though they don’t agree with me or my choices in standard of faith.
Mr. Giglio, thank you for demonstrating what it looks like to make a simple decision to follow Jesus as you accept the difficult consequences that accompany that life.
