The name of this blog is “Becoming A Follower.” It is easy to talk about following, but what exactly does it mean to follow?
One must determine what is being followed. The best way to determine that is take a good look at where you are right now and contrast it with where you once were. If your circumstances haven’t changed, you haven’t followed, you have remained stationary. That would suggest that there are many things that have passed you by. You haven’t moved, the things around you have.
Becoming a follower is just that, a continual becoming.
“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor 3:18
The reality is, we are either following Jesus and in the process of transformation into the image of Christ or we are following the world towards eternal separation from God. That separation is…death.
I caution you to take a look at what you are doing. If you are doing “stuff” for Jesus and there is no joy in the things that you are doing then you are not following Jesus. You are showing Jesus that you feel like you have to earn His attention and favor. It is a burden that you feel hindered by and that is not the type of “yoke” Jesus places upon us.
Jesus’ desire is to be the focus of your affection. A person can only be an focus of your affection if you love them. Truly loving anyone requires getting to know them. Getting to know someone requires spending time with them.
Jesus doesn’t desire a general love. Jesus desires and has provided the door for an intimate love. He is the door. Will you follow Him through that door?
